Arthur Nielsen 1883-1946 educated at the technical school of arts in 1900 and was a private pupil of Heinrich Dohm from 1909-1911. Nielsen worked primarily with land and seascapes and is known for his bright impressionistic works depicturing the colorful Scandinavian forests and their seashores.
A favorite work area of Nielsen was the Nature park “ Dyrehaven” And in 1915, Nielsen co-founded the artists union Dyrehavens malere with the artists Martin S- Rasmussen, Jens Sorensen and Wils. Besides Scandinavia, Nielsen also worked in Germany from 1913. Austria from 1921 and in Italy from 1933. Nielsen’s nature scenes were very popular and drew a wide audience. In his later years Nielsen became more expressive in his works and used more powerful and heavy brushstrokes.
This work of his depicts houses with a church in the background and was produced in the later years of his life. Nielsen worked the last 10 years (from 1936 to 1946) with large surfaces and applied the paint by means of a filling knife and scraped his signature in the wet paint. His paintings hold the essence of the particular light and colours of the seasons throughout the year.
