William Baker [1863-1937] Signed Antique British Watercolour Art Painting

A lovely watercolour painting by Williams Baker depicting a pair of wanderers travelling through a misty mountain countryside.

William Baker (1863-1937) was a landscape painter in oil and watercolour, a Draughtsman and an illustrator. He was born in South Shields and worked in his father’s clothing shop before becoming a professional artist at the age of twenty. He soon developed a market and gave lessons in his studio. He used the Lake District and Scotland for his landscape scenes, and also portrayed scenes from South Shields, and in particular Cleadon, where he died.

Baker occasionally published illustrations for local publications such as the 1895 edition of "The Banks of the Tyne: A Christmas Annual" published by the South Shields Daily Gazette.

In great condition with just a small amount of white paint marking to the frame.
