An oil on canvas painting by Danish artist Svend Aage Arvidsen (1908-1981) The scene depicts 3 harboured ships at Bornholme, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea.
The painting is signed S. Arvidsen in the lower right corner and likely to date from the 1940/50s.
Svend Aage Arvidsen started his career as an apprentice at a stonemasonry but also took classes in technical and freehand drawing. Intrigued by the art of painting, he soon began to paint under the supervision of Mogens Ege, a formally educated painter from the island of Bornholm. Arvidsen undertook several foreign study trips during his career and frequently exposed his work in Denmark.
Throughout his career as a fine artist, his favorite subjects were seascapes and harbors, much like this painting here.
In great overall condition with a few minor scuffs to the frame.
