A late English Georgian era John Rose & Co, Coalport 'Improved Feltspar Porcelain' rectangular pierced dish painted internally with a scene of two birds and externally with four butterflies.

In 1820 the Society of Arts awarded the Gold Medal to John Rose, the founder of Coalport China Works, for his new formula for feltspar porcelain and an improved glaze. This formula created a striking white porcelain body and helped with stamping out the scourge of lead poisoning in the ceramics industry. Objects created using this new “feltspar” were proudly branded with a special Society of Arts mark, which can be seen on the base of the dish.

Damage / repair to one area but still displays well and is a rare piece.
