Duncan Fraser McLea (1841 - 1916) spent some years at sea as a marine before taking up landscape and portrait painting as a career. He exhibited widely but after settling in South Shields he is only known to have exhibited outside of the area on two occasions, both of those being at the Royal Scottish Academy.. When he exhibited locally it was at places such as the South Shields Art Club and the Central Exchange Art Gallery in Newcastle.

This listing is for a pair of his oil on hardboards both signed and dated for 1907 capturing Carrick Castle in Loch Goil, and another of a castle situated at Loch Eil during an evenings glow.

A lovely pair of paintings captured during a period of time when McLea was a true master of his craft, they're both truly a joy to look at and accompany each other so well.

Both in great condition and in fantastic matching gilt frames, negligible signs of wear to the frames in the form of a small scratch to glass and minor amounts of wear to gilt.

Frame: 15.75" x 11.75" - Painting: 10" x 6"
