A superb tobacco jar in the form of a tree trunk with internal bowl and lid.
Very well made with a real likeness to an actual tree trunk, despite its wood like appearance it is in fact a pottery piece.
Akin to the woodland themes captured in Black Forest wood carving, but I suspect this to be English.
A difficult thing to date precisely but I would place around the the mid to late 19th century.
In great condition overall with some minor wear to the surfaces of the cut branches.
