With one hand resting on an hour-glass and one elbow on a skull, the weeping angel is a sculpture by Nicolas Blasset of a cherub which symbolises the brevity of life. It is part of the tomb at Amiens cathedral of Canon Guilain Lucas, who died in 1628.
Widely known as the Weeping Angel of Amiens, the cherub image became popular with soldiers during the First World War for several reasons.. such as the mourning symbolism or its commemoration and remembrance aspect.
This Amiens cathedral souvenir plaque dates from the early 20th century and would have likely being sold at the cathedral itself.
Some loss of marble to bottom left corner.
Height: 14 cm
