Old Hall pottery meat platter with tree of life design and juice well from the late 19th century Aesthetic Movement.

‘Aestheticism’ was a movement in the arts, literature, and decorative arts that emphasised the ideal of beauty in art and society as an end in itself. The Aesthetes believed in beauty in art for its own sake and dismissed the idea that art should have a moral or utilitarian purpose.

For a period during this movement aesthete symbols and themes appeared on English pottery, ceramics demonstrating aesthetic style are often decorated with Japanese-inspired motifs and geometric shapes.

In great condition for its age with no damage just one small negligible firing crack..
With crazing and general wear as expected with age.. produced c.1890.
