The pyramid shape of the traditional Nettur Petti boxes of Kerala were inspired by the local temple architecture and is also considered to symbolize the bride's new home.
Intended for the keeping of jewellery or as a wedding coffer into which wedding gifts were placed, used as well by temples to store their jewels.
Expertly carved wood adorned with hand-beaten brass and copper showcasing exquisite craftsmanship from the Mughal Rajasthani era of the 19th century.
With some rivets missing, scratching to the wood and split to one corner commensurate with its age and use. Displays very well and oozes history.
