A carved oak panel featuring an eagle with a strand of wheat between its beak along with two further bundles on either side. Below is the motto 'LOYAL A DEVOIR' which essentially means one's loyal duty or responsibility to be faithful.
With interesting provenance on the reverse stating the plaque was taken from a St Andrews church in 1887 during restoration and that it was built, or rebuilt, in 1721-22. This timeline aligns with works undertaken at St Andrew's Church in Penrith, Cumbria. There were two main phases of Victorian alteration to its interior, in 1863 and 1887, both by local architect George Watson and is presumably when this plaque was salvaged.
