Henry Wilkinson was a British painter best known for his sporting dogs and other sporting subjects. He studied first at the Winchester College of Art followed by the Royal College of Art in London and also gained in the Engraving School. He won various scholarships and diplomas and studied in Germany, France and Italy. After the war he was elected to the Royal Society of Painter, Etchers, & Engravers, ultimately as a Councillor. For many years he was professor of the Engraving School at the City and Guilds of London and worked with George Vernon Stokes, the famous canine artist, who helped him produce his prints. In 1954 after the death of Stokes, Wilkinson began producing limited edition etchings which were marketed by the publisher H.C. Dickens. The prints were in small editions and Wilkinson hand-painted each one.
