A charming hand carved duck bowl/container produced by the Lozi people of Zambia.
Animals depicted on bowls made by the Lozi were species that could be found inhabiting the shores of the Zambezi River.
The Lozi used lidded ornamental bowls for food storage. Such works also reinforced the status of their owners as they were carved by members of subjugated communities exclusively for use at Lozi courts.
A very original object with great aged patina and in good condition produced around the early to mid 20th century.
